CiXeL's Local WiFi BBS You are visitor number since 1st January 1999. |
Welcome to my little space on the world wide web. I am a twenty year old Australian whose interests are very broad. I like interfacing hardware to an IBM computer, and using software to control it as you can see from many of the projects listed below. I write a lot of software now and then, and like to distribute it as CardWare. This involves the people who use it to send me a PostCard of their local city and a comment of the weather on the reverse. I try to scan them all in and put them on display for all to see.
You have now logged into the local wifi BBS.
You can post information here for others to see, pull wikipedia articles, etc.
Yes it is simple and intentionally made to look like it was created in 1999.
It is actually a tribute to the website Damaged Cybernetics.

We were learning Turbo Pascal at the time (well, self learning...) so I decided to be an idiot and annoy everyone who used the PC I was working on after me. I made a little program which executed on every reboot which said "DiskDude was here!" in nice big blinking text which just sat there for a while making stupid noises, preventing Windows 3.1 from loading for a certain time period. :)
Why DiskDude though? I wanted to make it as stupid as possible and that's all I could think up of at the time... if you ever see me on IRC and all I do is stuff around, then you know why! After getting my Internet connection around six months later, and joining the now dead Damaged Cybernetics group, I retained the alias because a) I couldn't think of anything better than IceMan and b) I wanted to see how people took such a stupid name... It is surprising, because at one stage, a lot of people had a lot of respect for me and my work, and used the name "DiskDude" very seriously... very funny stuff! I couldn't help but laugh my head off sometimes. :-)
Here's a brief description of what I'm currently up to these days. Things are
going slower all the time, because I am currently undertaking a double degree
with Engineering (Communications) and Computer Science, which is very demanding.
FLUFFALO is an emulator for the Motorola 68HC11F1 Microcontroller. It
implements the main CPU and some hardware emulation in software, with most of
the very specialised hardware being implemented in actual hardware, controlled
by the software CPU core. This is done so that you may use this package
instead of the real thing for development purposes, or educational use.
These projects have been put on hold until I get some more free time. This is
most likely to occur over my Christmas breaks but no completion date has been
set.
CartDisk is a multiple console backup system for the Super NES,
SEGA MegaDrive/Genesis and GameBoy systems. It consists of a bit hardware
(either ISA card or printer port interface) and software which does most of
the work. It can currently backup cartridge ROMs, but cannot "play them back"
because a re-writable memory cartridge hasn't been completely developed yet.
Internet Exploder is a WWW browser running under Win95/NT for
people who only have access to shell accounts. It is to have many features
present in browsers like Netscape Navigator and Microsoft's Internet Explorer,
including email sending, form posting and frame support.
Here are a few C++ Builder components that I wrote, including a wrapper for
the DriverLINX Win95/NT kernel mode drivers (also as a DLL, ActiveX and Delphi
3.0/4.0 component in the same package - with source code), TCEdit an advanced
code editor component and TPrint, a printing component for text files with
similar capabilities to Notepad.
A CPU core for the 68HC11 microcontroller manufactured by Motorola written
in ANSI C. It only emulates the main CPU instructions and can process
interrupts. You are required to write the specialised hardware emulation
yourself. This is the main CPU core used in the FLUFFALO project above.
I created this EEPROM programmer back in 1997, when I needed to write to an
EEPROM we used at University. Here are the schematics and software code to
build it yourself. It connects to the printer port, and the software was
written in Pascal; it might serve as a great learning project for many
starting out.
NES Image is a DOS utility to manipulate NES ROM images.
CFiX is a DOS utility to scan and repair corrupted files. Note: You need
the original file (i.e. get someone else who has the original) to scan and
provide a fix file for your corrupt file.
I wrote this document a long time ago. It covers a lot of information
relating to the Super Nintendo (SNES) cartridges, such as their pin layouts,
and the format of the ROM image.
Back in the days when I was really into emulation, I created some
backgrounds for use with the Virtual GameBoy emulator. There are some very
nice backgrounds from Kodak, and some well, appealing, ones from PlayBoy too!
Most of my software is CardWare, meaning people must send me as payment, a
PostCard of their local city, with a comment of the weather on the reverse.
Here I have them all scanned in at this world first PostCard Gallery! This
page has to be my most favourite out of all the pages on this site... I'm sure
you will like it too.
